How it works
The Flexbed filter – a robust room filter with compressible filter material and a small footprint.
Filtration

- Upflow process at 40 to 75 m³/m²∙h
Compression of the filter material by upper movable filter plate
Different pore sizes can be flexibly adjusted
Backwash

Starts automatically when the maximum filter resistance is reached
Combined water-air flushing with raw water in the upflow at low flushing speeds
Duration approx. 25 minutes

PFAS-free filtration at the highest level
The Flexbed filter from Zahnen Technik works completely without PFAS-containing materials – while maintaining a consistently high filtration performance. Thanks to innovative process engineering, it offers a sustainable, future-proof solution for wastewater treatment.
The areas of application at a glance
- Space-saving flocculation filtration to achieve the lowest Pges discharge values
-
for wastewater treatment plants of all sizes
-
as downstream filtration after powder activated carbon dosing
-
as pre-filtration before ozone and/or GAK adsorbers to protect against activated sludge input and for efficient operation
- Treatment of industrial wastewater
- Treatment of surface water for production
- Treatment of water from production circuits
- Partial flow treatment of cooling water
- Treatment of water for industrial water use
- before further processing steps
- UV disinfection
- Ultrafiltration
- Desalination
- Agricultural use (irrigation, raining)
- Groundwater recharge/infiltration
-
from wastewater, raw water, groundwater, surface water, industrial water and process water
-
Removal of AFS and particulate COD (activated sludge flocs) from wastewater treatment plant effluents
-
as a police filter for discharge into sensitive waters
Reference project
Landfill leachate plant in Paderborn
Since 2020, the plant has been treating around 65,000 m³ of highly contaminated leachate every year using a sophisticated process combination of flotation, ozonation, fixed-bed biology and GAC adsorption. As an intermediate step, two Flexbed filters type 1 ensure reliable removal of solids and turbidity and protect the sensitive adsorption stage from sludge formation.
- Flexbed filter type 1 (duplex)
- Filter area: 0.25m²
Capacity: 18m³/h

Reference project
4th purification stage – sewage treatment plant in Barntrup
Since 2018, the reference plant has been providing efficient full-flow treatment with 160 l/s in the 4th treatment stage. Phosphorus and trace substances are eliminated by dosing PAHs and precipitants in the contact basin. Four compact Flexbed filters type 7 take over the space-saving separation; PAH-containing rinsing water is returned to the aeration tank for targeted removal with the excess sludge.
Flexbed filter type 7 (stainless steel)
Filter area: 4.0 m²
Capacity: 300 m³/h (per module)
Reference project
Osnabrück Zoo
Since 2022, the purpose of the two independently operated filter systems (2 type 4 filters each) has been to continuously clean a partial flow of the pool water for the sea lions and seals in order to remove food residue and other turbidity from the water and improve visibility in the pools. The filtered water is returned to the pools (220 m³/h per system).
Flexbed filter type 4 (black steel)
Filter area: 1.563m² (per module)
Capacity: 220m³/h
